...and our second
Phew. We held our second LAN party at Simon's (PCRanger) house on 15th April 2004 in celebration of the Easter holidays.
This party was much better than the first, mainly because of the better forward planning employed the second time around. Unlike last time, attendees were also forced to register on penalty of death, which resulted in a mad rush to the registration form, and better knowledge of the games to be played, location, and time.
One thing that we recommend you do before a LAN party is to make sure that your computer is properly configured, as Matt (matty_c) found out to his despair. For half the time he was there (he arrived late and left early), he was trying to connect to the LAN. Little did he know that his firewall was blocking all traffic in and out. Always make sure you either enable local connections or disable your firewall before such an event :) .
This time around, Simon (PCRanger) had also prepared a lot, and attendees were greeted with an array of crisps, dips and chocolate biscuits, and many members (mostly me) spent a good first part of the party munching away on snacks and finishing the supplies. Only a few games in, everybody was already starved, and a pizza was on the menu. More than an hour and £50 later, people were stuffing themselves full of either large pizzas or chicken wings, and drinking copious amounts of the fizzy stuff.
The rest of the party was taken up with either games, pestering Simon (PCRanger) to set up games, or installing games. All in all, it was a great way to spend a day of the Easter holidays which would have been otherwise spent unwisely.
The partcipants were:
- Simon (PCRanger) [Admin]
- Ruben (wackomenace) [Admin]
- Dan (slightly_demented)
- Matt (matty_c)
- Jon (computer_brain)
- Stewart (sparky)
