I may have accidentally neglected ComputingStuff for the past few years…in fact, I write this post mainly as a means of procrastination. While my life may have changed direction regarding profession, I still maintain a keen interest in computing, particularly the areas of security and forensics.

I intend to begin making blog posts on this website again this summer, even if they just consist of collated links of interest at a given time. My thanks go out to Ruben, for maintaining the site and keeping it up and running for the past few years. At last there is a content system in place which I can operate!

As an aside, I also think it is about time another LAN party happens, perhaps during the summer, June onwards?

I hope you are all keeping well, check back for activity soon!

Our forums are the best place to hang out, ask questions, and find out more about the site. We have a collection of boards targeted at hardware, software, games, general computing and off-topic discussions as well as a marketplace for selling your second-hand computer goods. The forums boast a small but active community who have, to date, made more than 11,000 posts.

Would you believe it? ComputingStuff 7 is out! Version 7 comes with many improvements, not least the move from Drupal to WordPress which is now much easier to manage. We have moved all of the content over from the old site so nothing has been lost.

Photos of LAN parties from the old gallery (which was not properly integrated with the rest of the site) are now integrated into their respective LAN party writeup articles, which makes it easier to match them up. They are now larger and load in-place with some fancy JavaScript

The theme itself retains most of the major elements of the old site, including the black and white colour scheme and red heading links. Other links now follow the conventional blue/purple theme and the text is mainly larger and nicer to read.

Some URLs had to change, unfortunately, but the main ones have remained the same so as not to break links and bookmarks. Smaller improvements are still taking place, and upgrades to the forums are slated next!

Following on from yesterday’s post, there are a couple more things that have happened.

Firstly, the hardware and software pages are now working as normal.

Secondly, the feeds are now updating well and we have moved back to Feedburner for hosting purposes. All the old feed links still work, though.

Finally, there is a new version of the phpBB RSS Feed generator. This has been updated to work with phpBB3.

On behalf of the ComputingStuff admins, have a very happy new year!

Ah, it’s been a very long time since we last posted something here, and in the interim, ComputingStuff has been left to decay it seems!

In the tradition of bursts of work that I am well known for, I have been working on the site a little to make it more presentable. The theme has changed very little, but under the hood there have been many software updates. We can once again actually log into the content management system (this had been broken for a long time) and so I took the opportunity to update some content.

The sidebar feeds should now update once an hour as normal (before today, they hadn’t updated for 2 years!)

All broken links are now also working, and I’m just doing some last bits of work on a couple of pages on the site to make them work normally. As part of this, I will also be releasing a new version of the phpBB RSS Feed mod, but more on this later.
